Sputtering

My sputtering and lurching at highway speed took 3 trips to the dealer and 4 mechanics to resolve. Turns out it was just a vacuum lock in the gas tank. Now my machine is blazing down the highway.

Damn I am glad it is fixed. I did not talk about it much because I was still riding it everyday to work and having fun since it was only happening at top speeds. I was having troubles getting to 70 miles per hour but now back to 80 if I want it.

I did go down on the jet while diagnosing the problem and it only made things worse until the vacuum problem was fixed. My dealer thought I was full of it. I had to race out of there to get to work and did not have time to talk about the resolution and jet size when I was there.

If you have not been following the story I went from a 122.5 jet to a 135 jet. it ran fine but I was wasting fuel. I knew that the problem was not the jet because it ran fine for months before the stuttering problem began. So I got the valves adjusted and put a better suited jet in. I am not too upset as those things are were necessary and now they are out of the way.

It is just a little frustrating having someone look at you like your nuts and you can tell they just want you to get the hell out of their store. In their defense they did one more pow wow and came up with the vacuum lock scenario and thank goodness because now like I said before, it is fixed and running better than ever. I can appreciate all the modifications now.

I am picking up my new xf200, with both front and rear sprokets changed over. Do you recommending jpmotorsports to change my 122.5 jet to a 135 jet also?

Hey I was just looking into a ko/china motorcycle for commuting. Im in San Diego, and there are alot of deep valleys, and Im a pretty big dude, how do you think it would work out?

well i would have to know how big is big? if you are 6'5" 250 pounds this is not the machine for you. if you are closer to 200 pounds it will work. i am 180. i ride up all those valleys including up the 163 to the 805 hill every morning. i can do 70 up it. when on the highay i am crouched over as you know there is no faring so it helps a lot. i would recommend this bike to most but if a real big guy you would want a bigger bike. no matter what after you ride a bike for a while you always want bigger. i plan on riding mine for at least the 2 year warranty before i upgrade and now have 6,200 km on it in 6 months.

sorry ejc_61364, i did not realize you posted also. first of all you are going to love the bike. as far as going to a 135 jet goes i would say no. it was overkill. i was wasting a lot of gas. i just had it re-jetted but i do not know what size they put in. i asked for a 127.5 but they just told me they will handle it and i was in such a rush i forgot to confirm. i can say that with the re-jetting down i did get more power and am saving gas. quite a noticeable amount of gas.

yeah its probably not ideal for me. still a sweet bike.

i have been having a similar problem. i took my xf 200 out the other day to recharge the battery after draining it. i noticed at top speeds that it would stutter. now even in town or just starting it when i crack the throttle it sputters and stutters. when i put into gear to try to go anywhere it lurches forwards and continues to sputter and stutter. any ideas?

to see if it was the same thing that caused my issue unlock the gas cap unscrew it and then lock it again so it stays in place (so gas does not splash all around when riding). take it down the street and see if it clears up. if so you have a vacuum lock in the tank like i did. my dealer is very good at fixing things but it is like pulling teeth to get them to answer what it is they did. i do know there was a problem with a vacuum line going into the tank. i hope this is all you need to fix your bike. i trust you have a good spark plug in it already?
